Welcome Packs for Young People in Thrive 16+ Supported Housing

Exciting things are happening in our Thrive 16+ Supported Housing projects! Thanks to the incredible efforts of our Fundraising & Events Manager, we have successfully raised enough funds to provide Welcome Packs for young people aged 16-25 moving into our supported housing. This initiative ensures that every new resident receives essential items to help them feel at home and supported as they start on their journey towards living independently.

What’s in a Welcome Pack?

Moving into a new place can be both exciting and overwhelming—especially for young people who have faced instability or homelessness. To make this transition easier, each Welcome Pack includes:

  • Bedding & Pillows – A fresh, comfortable place to sleep is a fundamental need. New bedding and pillows that the resident can call their own will make their space feel truly theirs.
  • Kitchenware – Essential utensils and cookware to help residents prepare their own meals.
  • Cleaning Supplies – Helping young people maintain a safe and hygienic living space.
  • Toiletries – Basic personal care items to promote self-care.
  • A Custom Diary – Encouraging residents to set goals, reflect, and plan for the future.
  • Storage & Tote Bags – A large tote bag and an XL storage bag ensure that when residents are ready to move on to independent living, they can pack their belongings with dignity rather than using bin bags.

Why This Matters

At YMCA Brunel Group, we understand that feeling welcomed and having a sense of ownership over one’s space can make a world of difference. Many of the young people we support have faced hardship, uncertainty, and housing instability. By providing these Welcome Packs, we hope to offer more than just material items—we aim to send a message of hope, care, and community support.

These packs play a crucial role in:

  • Boosting Confidence – Having the basics covered allows residents to focus on their personal growth and future aspirations.
  • Encouraging Independence – Providing kitchenware and cleaning supplies promotes self-sufficiency and essential life skills.
  • Creating a Sense of Home – A warm, welcoming environment can improve mental well-being and foster a positive start to their new chapter.
